"I Can't Breathe"

If loss lingered on the edge of words
Then “goodbye” would be more than two syllables

I find myself
Thinking often these days
Why loss has become such a run on sentence

We were supposed to be infinite
Do you remember that?

Instead
We all ran in different directions
Slamming our hips on the corners
Of the world
Not even pausing when their bodies hit the ground

We left them behind
All of them

And found that
We did not avoid loss at all

But always stood
Directly in her tide

You see,
In the end
We lost what we were always destined to--

Ourselves.

This poem literally amazes me. Slamming our hips on the corners of the world. WHAT SO GOOD
